In Forma History

In Forma was founded in 1995 by its owner and operator Mr. Andrea Colombu. Andrea moved from Italy to California in 1986 and in late 1994, with several years of experience as Personal Trainer and Group Class Instructor throughout Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, Andrea realized the dream of creating a fitness center for the expression of his view on health and fitness.

In Forma opened its doors to the public on January 3, 1995, with the vision of presenting a holistic approach to health and fitness which honored the interaction between body and mind as a fundamental principle for the attainment of a healthy and balance lifestyle. In Forma made its presence known in the community by offering a new, progressive, supportive and personalized range of health and fitness services with emphasis on mind-body integration, education, holistic approach to health and fitness, friendliness and supportive personal customer attention.

The Present

Today, with a renewed commitment to propagation of an integral and holistic approach to health and fitness and with more than 15 years of operation under its founding guiding principles, In Forma continues its mission by offering a wide range of services to its members.

Thanks to the addition of a new state of the art facility and the remodeling of its original facility, In Forma has expanded its services to include a beautiful and southing Yoga studio with an extended Yoga program and workshops; Pilates courses for both mat and equipment training; a retail area offering Yoga and fitness apparel and props, healthy snacks, nutritional products and gift items

This recent expansion is in addition to the already well established repertoire of Cardio and Fitness classes with widely experienced, motivational and knowledgeable instructors; Personal Training with highly reputable, experienced and recognized experts in the field; and a state of the art strength and cardio training facility. Other upcoming offerings will include Tai Chi and Qi Gong.

Guiding Principles

In Forma's mission is guided by a vision based on the following principles:

  1. Developing and maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle is essential to the realization of a wholesome, fulfilling and harmonious life, for a healthy and harmonious life balance is essential to the full realization, expression and experience of one's own full potential.
  2. In creating and maintaining a balanced and harmonious lifestyle it’s important to understand and experience the undeniable interdependence and interconnection between body and mind and the acknowledgement of the spiritual dimension of life as expressions of our multidimensionality.
  3. Integrating a wide variety of approaches to health and fitness can only but benefit the development of a balanced lifestyle for in their own right, each unique and different health, fitness and spiritual practice contains valuable and beneficial characteristic for the support of a wholesome, balanced and harmonious life.

What Is "Integral Fitness"

The term "Integral Fitness" is used by Andrea Colombu to describe the integration of a broad-spectrum of approaches to health and fitness used at In Forma to help promote well rounded and balanced health and fitness practices.

Integral fitness stands to define a new, integral view of health and fitness which blends contemporary Western models of exercise science with the ancient wisdom of traditional Eastern health and spiritual practices to create a holistic fitness model for the practice, promotion and support of balance for body, mind and spirit.
